Anthurium Care Guide
Anthuriums are elegant tropical plants loved for their glossy leaves and colourful blooms. They thrive with warmth, bright indirect light, and a chunky, breathable mix.
Light
Bright, indirect light is best. Too much direct sun can scorch leaves, while low light may reduce flowering.
Water
Water when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry. Keep lightly moist, but never soggy.
Soil
Use a chunky, airy mix that drains freely and allows oxygen around the roots.
Best Position
Place your Anthurium somewhere bright and warm, away from harsh direct sun, cold draughts, and radiators.
Watering Routine
- Check the soil before watering.
- Water when the top layer begins to dry.
- Let excess water drain away fully.
- Do not leave the pot sitting in water.
- Reduce watering slightly during colder months.
Humidity & Temperature
Anthuriums enjoy warmth and average to higher humidity. Keep conditions steady where possible, as sudden changes can cause stress.
Brown tips are often linked to dry air, inconsistent watering, or mineral build-up from hard water.
Flowering
To encourage blooms, give your Anthurium bright indirect light, steady warmth, and a light feeding routine during spring and summer.
Feeding
Feed lightly during the growing season with a balanced houseplant fertiliser. Avoid overfeeding, especially in winter.
Common Problems
- Yellow leaves: often caused by overwatering or poor drainage.
- Brown tips: usually dry air, inconsistent watering, or hard water minerals.
- No flowers: often linked to low light or lack of warmth.
- Drooping leaves: check watering, temperature, and root health.
Repotting
Repot when roots become crowded or the plant dries out much faster than usual. Move up only one pot size at a time.
Anthuriums prefer breathable soil that stays lightly moist without becoming dense or waterlogged.
