Plant Problem Guide
Yellowing Leaves
Yellow leaves can happen for lots of reasons, from normal ageing to watering stress. Use this guide to narrow down the cause and decide what to do next.
Overwatering
Soil staying wet for too long can reduce airflow around the roots.
Underwatering
If the plant dries out too much, older leaves may yellow and drop.
Low Light
Plants in darker spots may shed older leaves to save energy.
Root Stress
Recent repotting, compact soil or damaged roots can trigger yellowing.
Quick Checks
- Is the soil still wet several days after watering?
- Are the lowest or oldest leaves yellowing first?
- Does the pot have drainage holes?
- Has the plant recently been moved or repotted?
- Are stems soft, mushy or unstable?
Not sure what soil it needs?
