Plant Problem Guide
Leggy Growth
Leggy growth happens when a plant stretches toward light instead of growing compact and balanced. This is very common in houseplants kept in low light conditions.
Long Stems
Plants may develop stretched stems with larger gaps between leaves.
Small Leaves
New growth can appear weaker or smaller when the plant struggles for light.
Leaning Growth
Plants often lean heavily toward windows or light sources over time.
Weak Structure
Thin stretched stems may become floppy and unable to support the plant properly.
Quick Checks
- Are the spaces between leaves becoming larger?
- Is the plant leaning toward the nearest light source?
- Does new growth look smaller or weaker?
- Is the plant sitting far from a window?
- Has growth become stretched rather than compact?
What To Do First
- Move the plant closer to bright indirect light.
- Rotate the pot regularly for more balanced growth.
- Prune excessively stretched stems if appropriate.
- Avoid sudden harsh direct sunlight changes.
- Support healthy roots with a well-aerated soil mix.
Plants Commonly Affected
- Pothos
- Monstera
- Philodendron
- Succulents
- Tradescantia
